Mortgage Rate Update December 29, 2010

Mortgage rates are priced worse today.

There is no significant economic data scheduled for release today and the markets continue to trade thinly with many market participants on vacation.

The big news yesterday and today is the US Treasury auctions.  Yesterday’s 5-year note auction was not met with as much demand as anticipated which push yields to 7-month highs.  Today, the US Treasury will follow up with $29 billion in 7-year notes.  With yields higher I expect demand to be stronger.

Tomorrow we’ll get jobless claims and a few other reports.

Current outlook: neutral
